THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting
from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last
approximately one year but can be extended. Applications must be in

WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED ONLINE. DESCRIPTION THE AGENCY The mission of
Public Works is to enhance the quality of life for the people of
Alameda County by providing a safe, well-maintained, and lasting
public works infrastructure through accessible, responsive and
effective services. Public services provided by the Alameda County
Public Works Agency include flood and storm water pollution
control, transportation planning and design, roadway and flood
control maintenance and inspection, and construction and building
inspections. The goals of the Agency are to keep roads safe and
well maintained, provide the highest level of flood protection,
provide service levels that optimize infrastructure life cycles,
minimize deferred maintenance, ensure that development and
construction adhere to applicable State and County rules, optimize
disaster preparedness, response and recover, ensure that the
Agency's operations and services minimize negative impacts on the
environment, and sustain and advance County and Agency programs
through a vital business and administrative support system. For

general direction, to be in charge of a major engineering,
construction, maintenance, or related activity; to help plan major
engineering projects and to supervise the work of professional and
sub-professional engineering personnel; and to do related work as
required. Senior Civil Engineers have a continuing responsibility
for the quality and quantity of the work of a unit, as well as
other supervisory duties, as distinguished from the next lower
level, Associate Civil Engineers, who generally have responsibility
for projects. The unit under a Senior Civil Engineer is relatively
homogeneous, whereas higher-level supervisors, such as Principal
Civil Engineers, are responsible for several such units, covering a

CANDIDATE In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, the
ideal candidate for the Senior Civil Engineer in Flood Control
Watershed Planning Section will possess proven experience and
knowledge of:
- Hydrology and hydraulics principles and practices
- Hydrology and hydraulics studies and analyses, report
writing
- Consultant contract administration and project management
- State and Federal regulations and requirements related to water
resources and funding
- Hydrologic and hydraulics software and programs VACANCY Flood
Control Watershed Planning Services Responsible for managing the
Flood Control Watershed Planning Section, including staff and
consultants; overseeing the Public Works Agency's geographic
information system (GIS); and overseeing the Alameda County Flood
Control and Water Conservation District's hydrologic and hydraulic
data management program. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EITHER I
Experience: The equivalent of one (1) year of experience in the
classification of Associate Civil Engineer, or in an equivalent or
higher engineering classification in the Alameda County classified
service. OR II Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an
accredited college or university with a major in civil engineering.
AND Experience: The equivalent of two (2) years of professional
engineering experience subsequent to becoming a Licensed
Professional Engineer. OR The equivalent of four (4) years of
progressively responsible, full-time professional civil engineering
experience, at least two (2) years of which were in a supervisory
or administrative capacity. Certificate and License: Possession of
a valid License as a Professional Engineer issued by the California
Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California State
Motor Vehicle Operator's license. NOTE: The Civil Service
Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the
announcement of an examination. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS The most
suitably qualified candidates will possess the following
competencies: Knowledge of: Principles and practices of civil
engineering. Engineering mathematics and economics, stress
analysis, hydrology, and hydraulic design. Methods and equipment
used in engineering construction, maintenance, surveying, and
proper use of construction materials. Transportation engineering.
Laws and policies relating to the future development of road and
flood control facilities. Subdivision Map Act. County Ordinances
and Guidelines. Ability to: Written Communication. Oral
Communication. Decision Making. Leadership. Planning and
Organization. Management Control. Budget Analysis. Flexibility.
Performing under pressure. Building and maintaining positive
working relationships. EXAMINATION COMPONENTS THE EXAMINATION WILL
CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS: A review of the applicants'
application to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those
candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will
move on to the next step in the examination process. An oral
interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates' final
examination score. The oral interview may contain situational
exercises. Candidates must attain a qualifying rating on each
portion of this recruitment. RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PLAN

advance of any examination process which will require their
