BQuant Technical Writer - CTO Office

Company: Consortium for School Networking
Location: San Francisco
Posted on: November 13, 2024

Job Description:

Finance is changing, and fast: new financial professionals are learning to code with Python and create their own custom analytical solutions. Bloomberg, the global leader in business and financial data, has identified an exciting new opportunity to reach this tech-savvy client base. We're building products that open our data, core products, and visualizations to data scientists, ML researchers, and quantitative modelers: the BQuant platform and the Bloomberg Query Language (BQL). With BQuant and BQL, users can bring their own algorithms to our data. We provide a unified environment where users can develop their code and test, share, and deploy it easily. The impact? Providing the entire industry with tools that are currently available only to large banks and hedge funds. We're looking for a technical writer with coding experience and top-notch writing skills to help our users get the most out of these solutions. In this role, you'll write content for a new online learning strategy being developed for BQuant, BQL, and related technical products. You'll collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, UX Design and Research, developer advocates, and other writers to create engaging documentation and instructional materials. Who we are:Bloomberg's Learning and Productivity team creates technical documentation and learning resources for BQuant, BQL, and related technical products. Our team works cross-functionally across UX, learning science design and research, engineering, and product. We investigate requirements and devise innovative learning solutions for our clients. Our team members have the skills to dive deep into product areas, research technical domains, and take an assignment from initiation through to publication while seamlessly shifting between deliverables and writing styles. We're a growing technical writing team that values team collaboration, peer-to-peer editing, an iterative writing process, curiosity and interest in applying learning science to technical writing, and cooperative idea generation. Though we move quickly and strive to perfect the art of balancing competing priorities, we put a premium on quality -- both of writing and ideas. We'll trust you to:

  • Work directly with cross-functional stakeholders to research, write, and produce a high volume of client-facing documentation, including user guides, API documentation, product overviews, contextual help, FAQs, and release notifications.
  • Collaborate with cognitive and learning science experts to write effective instructional materials.
  • Employ logical content strategy to forefront essential information.
  • Adhere to style guidelines for a suite of standard deliverables, and work creatively to extend those guidelines for bespoke content.
  • Gain quick knowledge of the markets, so you can convey technical material in the context of a financial professional's workflow.
  • Shift seamlessly between writing precise instructional documentation and more conversational, benefit-focused promotional announcements.
  • Generate creative ideas to evolve our styles, processes, and tools. You'll need to have:
  • 3+ years of technical writing experience in a technical domain.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience documenting Python, APIs, query languages, and other technical artifacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and explain code including written samples of API documentation, query languages, and/or a background in computer science.
  • Excellent writing skills for an end-user client audience, with flexibility to shift between procedural and conversational writing styles.
  • Proven creative writing skills to craft compelling, benefit-focused content.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple projects at once with variable timelines.
  • A proven track record of success interacting with all levels of staff, including UX researchers and designers, developers, business specialists, and senior management.
  • Drive to gain knowledge and build skills across both technical and financial domains. We'd love to see:
  • Editing experience and ability to establish style guidelines for other content creators.
  • Demonstrated initiative in innovating and implementing workflow, process, and technical solutions.
  • Aptitude for strong visual display of information and image production as part of effective content design.
  • Growth mindset.
  • Working knowledge of the financial markets.
  • Ability to author in Markdown and/or reStructuredText. Bloomberg is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, ancestry, color, gender identity or expression, genetic predisposition or carrier status, marital status, national or ethnic origin, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, sexual and other reproductive health decisions, parental or caring status, physical or mental disability, pregnancy or maternity/parental leave, protected veteran status, status as a victim of domestic violence, or any other classification protected by applicable law.
