Job Summary


The research data analyst will join a collaborative and exciting team of researchers at the F.I. Proctor Foundation studying infectious/inflammatory eye diseases in the U.S. and internationally. Researchers at the F.I. Proctor Foundation conduct clinical trials and large epidemiological studies on ocular inflammatory diseases which can cause blindness. The epidemiological studies involve large administrative databases and multicenter clinical trials involve domestic and international collaboration. This position requires an employee with excellent communication and organizational skills who can be relied upon to play an integral role in implementing research studies (including international clinical trials). The incumbent will be asked to contribute to study design from a methodological standpoint, help with database creation, management and analysis, as well as to assist in the writing of grants, progress reports, and manuscripts. The analyst will be responsible for writing and executing statistical analysis plans. Responsibilities will also include communication with and coordination of collaborating sites, and training investigators and study personnel. Travel to study sites may also be required for study implementation and monitoring.

The employee should show a strong interest in clinical research and a desire to contribute to the state of knowledge on the prevention, treatment and correlates of disease. The incumbent must be able to multi-task, problem-solve, and apply creative solutions to new and unexpected situations with limited supervision. The employee must be able to communicate effectively verbally and through written materials with collaborators.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. Department Description

The F.I. Proctor Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology at UCSF is committed to engaging in research activities and providing state-of-art patient care that address infectious and inflammatory disease that cause blindness. The mission is the prevention of blindness worldwide through research and teaching focused on infectious and inflammatory eye disease.


Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS with a coursework in quantitative analysis (i.e. biostatistics, mathematics, computer science, statistics or related field; or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum of 1 year of directly related experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency completing complex statistical analyses
  • Knowledge of database management.
  • Knowledge of various study designs and implementation strategies.
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with statistical software packages (R, STATA or equivalent). R preferred.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Graduate degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology or related field and/or two to three years of experience in practical data analysis or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
